Fontanelles is produced by Foncalieu, a very large negotiant company that bottles both bulk wine and estate wines. Fontanelles had been an estate wine up until 2000 when production volume needed to be increased and therefore had an addition of some bulk wine (Domaine Fontanelles became Les Fontanelles) The Foncalieu family is a big one, with over a thousand winegrowers spread across three of the South of France’s great wine regions : Languedoc-Roussillon, Gascony and the Rhône Valley. Over the past century we have forged a close bond with our land and its fruits. From the Corbières mountains to the Mediterranean shore, from hillsides caressed by the Mistral to plains bathed in sunshine, we’ve been producing wines here since our ancestors founded France’s first winegrowers’ union, on 23 December 1901. Fresh aromatics with a grassy edge and sweet aromas of pears. The palate is just as fresh, with lots of citrus and gooseberry fruit that give an impression of sweetness, but it finishes dry with plenty of crisp, clean acidity.
