The blend of "La Croix de Carbonnieux" Blanc is 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon. It is the second white wine produced by Carbonnieux with production beginning in 2004. The second wine of a Château is a great way to understand a house style, at a better value. These wines usually tend to see less oak aging, making them more approachable in their youth.
This wine is very aromatic just after popping the cork. White flowers, chamomile, lime zest, and vanilla are the most apparent. The palate is what you would expect from the nose, however, with a richer texture. The Semillon gives the wine a waxy like texture, and the 25 % New French Oak give the wine a slightly more round style then one would expect from the nose. This wine is much more complex than the standard Sauvignon Blanc and will make you question why you've been drinking New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc all these years!
